The Cleaning Icon
Originally introduced in 1985, the iconic Electrolux L-Shaped Powerhead helped usher Electrolux into a new era of cleaning performance and durability. Commonly nicknamed the “PN-5”, this 15” powerhead was designed to deliver deeper, more effective carpet cleaning while remaining exceptionally maneuverable around furniture and obstacles. Its unique L-shaped design makes it easy to clean under the front edge of sofas, around furniture legs, and into tighter spaces without constantly moving furniture. The flat-to-the-floor profile also allows it to reach under low-clearance furniture with ease, while the wide 15” cleaning path helps you cover large rooms quickly.
In 2014, the design was further improved with an updated motor, belt, and brushroll system that delivers stronger cleaning performance with lower operating noise. The powerhead also includes a convenient toe-touch switch that allows you to easily turn the brushroll on or off when transitioning between carpeting and bare floors.
Spring-loaded rear wheels automatically adjust to varying carpet heights, allowing the powerhead to glide smoothly across different surfaces without manual adjustments. For added protection and convenience, the built-in automatic circuit breaker will temporarily shut the powerhead down if it picks up an obstruction like the edge of an area rug or a sock—helping protect the motor and belt while saving you an unnecessary trip to the repair shop.
Every Aerus Lux Classic includes two complete sets of wands for maximum versatility and convenience. The electric wand and metal sheath used with the power nozzle are designed to remain attached to the powerhead for everyday carpet cleaning. This setup incorporates a convenient direct-connect system, allowing you to simply plug the hose into the upper wand and automatically make the electrical connection to the powerhead—no additional cords or pigtails required.

Integrated directly into the hose handle is a convenient suction control valve. This allows you to quickly reduce suction when cleaning lightweight fabrics like draperies, curtains, or lamp shades. The sealed screw-style design stays tightly closed for maximum cleaning performance but opens easily whenever reduced suction is desired.

Customers looking for an Aerus/Electrolux canister with the swivel powerhead and plastic D-Shaped Wands should look at the Aerus Legacy Canister. While the Classic excels in simplicity and durability, it intentionally uses the traditional Aerus/Electrolux design that many longtime owners prefer.
Customers looking for ultra-modern features like swivel steering, cordless convenience, LED headlights, automatic suction adjustment, or highly compact storage may also want to consider a more contemporary canister design from SEBO, Miele, or Aerus’ newer premium models.
Additionally, while the Aerus Classic offers excellent cleaning performance and above-the-floor capability, its traditional hose and wand setup is best suited for customers who appreciate classic handling characteristics and proven reliability over cutting-edge ergonomics or modern styling.
